We have lived in Stafford County for over 10 years. Tracee and I moved to Stafford after I finished Law School and being stationed at Marine Corps Base Quantico. I served as a prosecuting attorney for the Marine Corps for several years before transferring to Marine Barracks Washington - also know as 8th and I. After another successful tour as a judge advocate it was time to leave active duty. Tracee and I fell in love with Stafford County. We became active in Stafford Baptist Church and started having children (up to four now). We wanted to stay right in Stafford so I began looking for a law position close to home. Bob Goodall gave me a chance to experience the practice of law in the local courts. For the last 5 years I have practiced a wide variety of law to include criminal defense, civil litigation, domestic law, and corporate law. The last five years have been very rewarding and that make this next move even more difficult.
For the last few years I have noticed a lack of leadership in the Office of the Commonwealth Attorney. The current Commonwealth Attorney has been in the post for over 40 years and is a legend among the local bar association. Earlier this year he announced that he would not be seeking re-election in the fall. In the same article he named one of his deputies as his likely replacement. While that deputy is a skilled litigator (and would be a valuable asset to my future staff) I question his leadership abilities in such an important office.
The Commonwealth Attorney needs to lead the administration of justice in county with compassion. The Commonwealth Attorney needs to serve the community instead of being concerned with his own personal interests. The Commonwealth Attorney needs to not only be tuff on crime but also smart on crime. The Commonwealth Attorney also needs to understand that the prosecutors are just one piece of the puzzle. Unity among the local judges, police, and yes, the local defense bar, must be a priority to the Commonwealth Attorney.
I will bring my leadership skills developed from my experience as a Marine Corps Officer. I will never forget my Christian values when conducting the County's business. I will always remember that I serve the people of Stafford County. I look forward to serving my community as its next Commonwealth Attorney.
